Orange is the New Black - Episode 5
The big story line this week is there is a new job detail being set up by the new regime, and many of inmates are interested. It pays 1 dollar an hour, which is way more than other jobs. The inmates are issued a test to qualify for the job. The questions give many of the inmates struggles, especially Gonzalez who gets kicked out.
Some of the girls passed the test and got the job including Black Cindy, Watson, Demarco, Piper, and somehow Gonzalez. But it turns out the test was bullshit and was just some type of random mind trick by the new regime.
Throughout the episode Gonzalez is highlighted for how she got in jail. She sold fake drugs that some boy took and jumped off a building. Crazy. She is struggling in jail because she wants more for her life. She doesn't want to work in the kitchen any longer. Mendoza tries to keep her under her control, working in the kitchen, but she lashed out. So when she passes the test and gets the job, the Latinos in the kitchen disown her. She tells them she is better than them and will be going to work a great job, up to her great potential.
Well, the ladies find out the new job is a sewing factory called Whispers, where they will be making underwear. Lol. Gonzalez feels like shit now. Lol.
Somebody stole the honey from Poussey's hooch stash. The culprit may be a squirrel. Turns out it was Taystee. Lol.
Red appears to be attempting to soften herself up for Healy. Healy is falling hard. He assumes she is too, but it turns out she wants him to help her get back in the kitchen. He feels like a sucker.
Alex thinks that Kubra planted a girl in the prison to get her. The female has her on edge and Piper thinks she's delusional.
Diaz had her mother's boyfriend go to Bennett's home looking for him, but he cleared out and is gone. She's devastated. She has nobody to raise the baby now, so she meets with Pornstach's mother and tells her she can have the baby. She can't sign the baby over until its born. She's clearly doing this out of frustration.
Overall, a very good episode. It will be interesting to see what happens with Alex, as she is very worried that somebody is going to kill her. Its barring on psycho status.
Also, the whole Diaz situation is really disgraceful. But she really has no options. She doesn't want her baby taken as a ward of the state, so in her mind the best thing is to give the baby away. I'm sure her mind will change once its born. Hopefully that idiot Bennett comes back, but I doubt it.
