Broken Road to Wrestlemania: Part 4
After the Royal Rumble, a series of events occurred that changed the planned direction for Wrestlemania 30.
The original plan was:
Well, the night after the Royal Rumble 2014, CM Punk walked out of the company, never to return. I could go on forever about why Punk quit the company, but one of the main reasons is he didn't care to face HHH at Wrestlemania.
Vince McMahon's plan for Batista's return was for him to come in as a huge fan favorite and conquering hero to take on the Authority!!!.... Well the fans had other plans. they completely sh*t all over Batista and boo'd him out of every building. No matter what Vince tried to do, the fans did not want Batista to be in the main event over Daniel Bryan.
So for the next few weeks, the momentum continued to snow ball and in every arena the fans would chant for Daniel Bryan constantly, whether he was on the screen or not. No matter how much Vince tried to bury Bryan, the fans would not be silenced. They wanted Bryan and they were going to get him.
So finally, Vince's hand was forced, and he changed his plans. A story line was created where Bryan and his fans hijacked the show in the ring, and they wouldn't leave until Bryan got a match with HHH at Wrestlemania. Once HHH reluctantly agreed , Bryan wanted another stipulation added. If he beat HHH, he would be added to the main event of Wrestlemania, to face Randy Orton and Batista in a 3 way for the WWE World heavyweight title.
At Wrestlemania, the fans got what they wanted, as Daniel Bryan beat HHH, then went on to defeat Randy Orton and Batista to capture the World title. Finally, Bryan was at the top and he was the most popular and deserving champion in the company. The fans had their Wrestlemania moment.
The scene at Wrestlemania can not be taken away from the memory of the fans, but the WWE did everything they could to make sure Bryan's reign would be all down hill from there.
The Plan
Brock Lesnar defeated the Undertaker and snapped his Wrestlemania undefeated streak. The purpose of this was to build Brock for a title win and reign to begin at Summerslam. So that meant the plan was for Brock to beat Daniel Bryan.
Well, hot off his huge win at Mania, Bryan was put in a program with... Kane.
That's right, that Kane, from the 90's. Instead of giving Bryan an opponent he could have some good matches with and exhibit his strengths, he was put in slow plodding kick and punch fest with the old and stale Kane, and the worst thing possible happened, Bryan got hurt.
Bryan's neck was injured and he needed surgery. Due to the timetable of his return being unknown, Bryan was stripped of the World title. Bryan was now forced off television to recuperate, and the "Yes movement" came to a startling halt.
And somewhere Vince McMahon was saying "I told you so".
Brock went on to destroy John Cena for the title at Summerslam, a fate that was originally designed for Bryan. The win was decisive and destructive. Brock was a beast and booked as a monster. Well, when he was on TV.
You see Brock Lesnar signed a deal that pays him 5 million dollars a year to wrestle 3 matches. That's right 3 matches.
So Vince decided to make Brock world champion, and build the next "John Cena" to defeat Brock at Wrestlemania 31.
Well, in part 5, we will explore McMahon's plan and introduce you to the man, hand picked to be the next "guy", Roman Reigns.
The original plan was:
- Batista to return and win the Royal Rumble, guaranteeing himself a title shot in the main event at Wrestlemania against Randy Orton.
- CM Punk vs HHH
- Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus
