TOP FIVE SHOWS
OF THE LAST WEEK
NUMBER FIVE
Atlanta - FX
I like Atlanta because every episode is so different and you really don't know exactly what you're going to get when you tune in. Last week's episode was completely out of left field with the German games or whatever, but the underlying message of the episode was one that most young adults trying to juggle a relationship could relate to in some way.
Earn and Vanessa clearly have love for eachother, but they just are not in the right place in their own lives to be fully satisfied with the other person. He isn't secure in himself, because he's not where he wants to be, and she wants more from him and herself. The dynamic is so interesting, because if it were not for their child together, they probably would not be together at all. But the reality is, they do have a child together, and like so many people we all know, they are trying to be compatible for the sake of the child, but ultimately they end of resenting one another, because each feels they are trying to be enough to make it work, they don't feel the other person is trying as hard. I thought the show did an excellent job showing that struggle so many go through, balancing what you should do and really want.

NUMBER FOUR
Chicago Fire - NBC
I thought last weeks two hour event was really well done, and an example of what you can do when you slow the stories down and let the audience anticipate and yearn for a satisfying pay off. Severide and Stella have been dancing around getting back together for far too long, and many things have kept them apart. One being the relationship Kelly had with Anna, where it was really genuine, but she died due to her illness. That really took a lot of Kelly, and for months you could see that greif hanging over his character. I'm glad the writers slowed things down and showed us that, because far too many times in past seasons, they just ran through storylines like they were insignificant, which made it unrealistic.
But this episode provided Kelly with closure of Anna's death and showed once again how Stella is there for him through tough times. Not to mention him literally running into a burning building, with bullets flying, to save her life. This was well done. And their scene in the bar at the end was sexy as all hell. On a sad note, poor Otis may be paralyzed. That was crazy. But come now, we know he won't be. Every single character on this show has had a near death scene. Lol. It was his turn.

NUMBER THREE
Homeland - Showtime
This season of Homeland has been sensational, and really a great followup to the explosiveness that was last season. Carrie is is really going off the deep end, between her issues with her mental wellness and her recurring issue with trusting the wrong men, she's doomed. But Sunday's episode may have been her all time low. She involved her daughter in a situation where she knew Dante was dirty, and she essentially used Franny as a cog in her operation, and ultimately put her in danger. It was super reckless, and it came back to bite her huge.
It did shock the hell outta me how they had him straight up confront Carrie about it like, yea I know you know, so lets put our cards on the table. Then she still slept with him!!!! She's legit crazy!!! Poor Fannie may be scarred for life after seeing the agents bust in and rip her out of bed. What an excellent show.

NUMBER TWO
60 Days In: Reunion - A&E
If you follow me on social media you know how huge of a "60 Days In" fan I am. Well this season was sensational. Angela was a complete idiot who ultimately was the reason behind the programs demise, and I was ecstatic that her castmates let her know just that at the reunion. She was pathetic, trying to excuse everything away by saying she is human and followed her heart. Bullshit! You followed that girls smile and booty cheeks, I don't want to hear that. I was so happy Alan wouldn't let up on her and they held her accountable for her actions.
The real star of the episode was Soledad O'Brien, who did an excellent job as the host and moderator of the reunion discussion. She was tough, fair, but very direct with her comments and questions towards each participant and didn't pull any punches. I thought she really did a great job speaking against Colonel Adger when he spoke quite ignorantly about the relationship between law enforcement and black citizens. She read him quite thoroughly and it was so well done.
Then her direct and elegant destruction of Stephanie was quite satisfying to behold. Stephanie was really the worst example of any of the participates in my opinion, even worst than Angele because she actually treated the show like it was a competition, and she was trying to outlast her fellow castmates. She was pathetic and by the end, they humbled her. Jacky was on fire and hilarious!!! I absolutely loved this seaosn and it was certainly the best one so far. Unfortunately, it may be the last one. Smh.

THIS WEEK'S NUMBER ONE
The Chi - Showtime
There is so much you can say about he Chi, and the first season finale touched on just about every issue presented throughout the season. The writing was so well done, so realistic, and so cohesive that it may actually be my favorite episode of a TV show in years. Every character's story arc was highlighted in such a way that every goal was met.
Brandon's story is the most interesting as in how they tied everything together. In reality, Brandon is a good guy who wants better than the street life. He avoided getting mixed up in the gang life, but the murder of his brother sent his whole life into a downward spiral, and in the end, even when he thought he was out of it, every decision he made came back to bite him in some way. Not killing Ronnie was a sign of his true heart, but Ronnie turning himself in and ended up halting the healing process of his mother, causing her not to sell the house, and may have stopped any hope for their lives to move on for the better. And getting the gun from Reg, may now cost him his freedom, as now he owes the new leader of the gang a favor, and we know he's going to get used and sucked into the gang world after all. Its crazy how all that was tied together.
The character development on this show has been excellent. Emmitt's growth as a young father, Jake's transition into the gang world at such a young age, and Ronnie realization that he did everything he did for a woman who didn't really care about him. Excellent season.
