DVR Top Five of the Week - 4/23/18
Before we get into last week's top five, I must make a mention of s show that really bothered me last week, and I must expound upon.
Last week Blackish went down an avenue that I never really wanted them to, but unfortunately it's a reality for most marriages, growing apart. I get it, no marriage is perfect, and often with sitcoms the husband and wife will have an issue and it will be resolved by the episodes end and we move on. But this didn't happen. The end of the episode came, and the issue seemed to be getting worse. I get it, realistically it's a reality but this came off very forced and out of nowhere. I watch this show every week and I saw no build up to the problems between Bo and Dre. And now all of a sudden the previews are making it seem like their telling the kids their splitting up? WHY!?!?!
This is a terrible decision to even flirt with this direction in my opinion. We don't want to see this on a comedy we turn to for relief and laughs from our normal life. Sure, we want them to tackle serious issues, but as a United family. We have enough dramas on TV showing broken families. Bad move.

TOP FIVE SHOWS
OF THE LAST WEEK
NUMBER FIVE
Homeland - Showtime
9/15/18 - I never thought Carrie would actually smarten up and do what was best for her daughter and that's allow her sister to raise her. But at this point, it's the only thing she could do. Carrie is CIA, fully and solely, and that is all her fragile brain is consumed by. The President is an idiot, and I for one hope they impeach her dumb ass. Very good week.
NUMBER FOUR
Grey's Anatomy - ABC
Yo this was the most legit funny episodes I can ever recall seeing from the series!!! In honor of 4/20, almost everybody accidentally got high from some cookies that were spiked with weed!! And the results were hilarious. So many inside jokes, so many twist, this was great. My favorite part was when the covered the skeleton screen with a sheet and declared time if death!!! Then Arizona put her hand over her heart like the pledge was playing at a military funeral!! Excellent. Also we learned the big secret about the sexual harassment cases that got covered up. Timely episode indeed.
NUMBER THREE
The Americans - FX
Elizabeth is the most cold hearted, ruthless character on TV, and this season we really see an even more miserable side of her like never before. This is the first time the show has made the top five this season because it's been rather slow. But last week the deterioration of the relationship between Phillip and Elizabeth was focused on, and it's getting worse. Phillip is no longer a spy but he really doesn't want Paige in it either. He wants to be normal, but he's having a tough time adjusting. His poor business decision may make them broke soon and he's losing his grip on things. Elizabeth is just heartless. She can murder and not blink, the lice for country is clearly more important than her family. This is all going to end badly.
NUMBER TWO
Designated Survivor - ABC
Wow this show seems to get better by the week! I love the direction the show has taken and the revelation last week that the person responsible for leaking President Kirkman's therapy session maybe the new chick he's trying get with, Andrea Frost!! I don't think it true and really hope it's not true but got damn it would be something if it was true!!! Kirkman talking to his daughter about the therapy sessions was a great moment. I still think of this guy as Jack Bauer, and episodes like this make me wish he was. When they came to him trying to vote him out of office, Jack would've shot them all for betraying him!! Great episode.
THIS WEEK'S NUMBER ONE
Scandal - ABC
The last few years of Scandal declined from the high quality the show once presented on a consistent basis. I get it though, as with that type of conspiracy drama its difficult to generate high quality stories over the course of several seasons. So when the end was announced, I wasn't sad and I understood it. I think the season where Olivia was kidnapped and held hostage was when I lost interest and felt they fell off the rails. And Millie becoming President and Cyrus Vice, with all their skeletons, came off as unrealistic. But, this final season was pretty good. The reveal of B613, which turned out not to be a reveal was well done, with Poppa Pope forcing the special committee to decide whether they wanted to admit that a black man was actually running the country for the past 30 years. And of course they decided to blame Jake instead. Smh. Great ending to a series that overall had a great run, and proved black women could be successful as a lead in network series.
