Week in TV "Run It Back" DVR Review - 1/13/17
Best Show I watched Last Week
This week's episode of Blackish focused on the days and weeks after Donald Trump was elected the President of teh United States. To say the show did a masterful job capturing the range of emotions felt across the country from those who did not vote for him, was an understatement. Simply excellent and riveting TV. Blackish does an outstanding job of presenting serious topics in a way that you still can find humor in the small moments. Then it allows serious moments to really breathe and resonate with the viewers.
I was moved by Dre's speech about how he felt about this country and how electing a man like Trump sends a message to Minorities and women in this country. I also liked how it was highlighted that white women votes against Hillary in droves. All of it was just every well done and very timely, which always makes for great TV. Definitely the best thing I watch this week!!!

What You Should Be Watching
Emerald City on NBC
When a tornado transports Dorothy Gale from Lucas, Kansas, to the faraway land of Oz, her arrival sets in motion a prophecy about a disastrous event known as The Beast Forever and strikes fear into the land's almighty ruler, the Wizard. On her quest to meet the Wizard in Emerald City, Dorothy encounters witches, an amnesiac soldier, a sheltered little boy and many more mysterious beings who will ultimately shape the future of Oz and Dorothy's place in it.
While this is not a weekly show I review, it has made my list of shows to watch and I think you all should try it out for yourselves. Friday night's on NBC.

The Affair on HBO
This season of the Affair has been pretty strange in my book. Its kind of lost the charm the show had in the first season, where we were watching Noah live a double life, Allison live a double life and Helen experience everything crumble around her. Now it’s just a crime drama that leaves viewers wanting the return to what made the show great. |
Homeland on Showtime
*Will return from Winter Break Soon* |
The Young Pope on HBO
*Will premiere soon* |
Monday
Scorpion on CBS
Scorpion was of this week but I must say that I am growing tired of the delay in putting Walter and Paige together. I know the money is in the chase and traditionally shows have gone down once the two people we all want to see together finally get together. But this show is different. Walter would evolve as a character with Paige by his side and I think the show needs a shakeup. |
Celebrity Apprentice on NBC
This season has been pretty much the same in my opinion and Arnold has done a great job replacing Trump. Honestly, he adds some good information and is pretty sharp with his evaluation of the arguments presented. He's better than Trump. Lisa Lesly is quite the lightening rod, and I don't see that coming. Will be interesting to see the showdown between her and Layla Ali unfold. |
SuperGirl on CW
*Will return from Winter Break Soon* |
Love and Hip Hop NY on VH1
Smh, this how. Lol. Where to begin. First, what the hell is up with these Creep Squad dudes? One minute they hopping over poker tables and car hoods trying to fight over 10 stacks, the next they’re crying, hugging and holding each other. Pathetic. And Snoop. Smh. This chick has to be the worst reality TV actor of all time. Lol. Her lines seem so forced, fake, and out of place. This show!! LOL!!! |

Flash on CW
*Will return from Winter Break Soon* |
DC's Legends of Tomorrow on CW

This Is Us on NBC
Tell me a show that captures the elements of human emotion better than this show, and I will show you the best drama on TV. I love the flashbacks to how he borrowed money from the father who treated him like trash, just so he could provide for his family and make his wife happy. I loved the scenes in the hospital, the scenes with William, the show is great!!! Just watch it!!!!1 |
American Housewife on ABC
I continue to really enjoy this show and think that Katy Mixon has been really underutilized for years now. This woman is hilarious and she has great comedic timing. I knew she was funny on Mike and Molly but this show is her break out role and lets her show her full chops. Loved this week's episode where they were snowed in and forced to camp at home with no electricity. The son is hilarious and very sarcastic, which is great. And the little girl is just dumb and cute enough to be a break out star. I love this show. |
The Mick on FOX
Well, I thought nothing could top Speechless for the most over the top show on Network TV, but I was wrong. This show takes the cake. The premise is that the Mick has moved into her sister’s house to take care of her children, after the sister and husband go on the run from the FEDS. This show is crazy man!! The other night, the little boy took birth control pills and was spazing out. They were having sex and talking about sex left and right. WHAT IS THIS!! They push every button to the max, and break every rule. Just watch it for yourself. Nuts. |
Chicago Fire on NBC
*Off due to President's Obama's Farewell* |
Good Behavior on TNT
The season finale of Good Behavior ended pretty much the way I expected it to. Letty got custody of Jacob and Javier came back to her. And now they are on the run from the FEDS. I knew he wouldn't be that mad at her for turning him in. Cause in the end, she did it so she could get custody of her son and it showed him just how much her son meant to her. I am a fan of the show and can't wait for season 2. I will be interested to see where things go. |
Wednesday
Speechless on ABC
Using JJ as a charity case was this week's theme and it was great. Episodes like this make the show so great and so unique because it touches on topics that I have never seen covered on TV and breaks new ground. This show is so funny and so edgy, its deserves and EMMY!!! |
Star on FOX
There are good elements to this show that I really like, then there is the "Empire" trap that I see it falling into. The show runs through so many cliches its ridiculous and it borders on annoying quite often. The singing is OK, the plot is shaky. I will give it a few more episodes by I'm wearing thin. |
Blackish on ABC
Why do I love thee, let me count the ways. ABC's Blackish is the best show on TV when it comes to tackling and addressing racial conversations and exploring current subjects that are happening in our country The week's episode was excellent, and without a question, best show of the week. |
Law and Order: SVU on NBC
I love SVU, and you can always count on the show for a good case to keep you hooked for an hour. Lately, I have noticed how being a mother has changed Benson a bit for the better and she is becoming more human. I can see her stepping away in the near future to settle down. |
Are You the One on MTV
The season premiere of Are you the One was pretty entertaining, as we got to meet the new singles and see who would be the potential matches. I must say, there are some fine young ladies this season that will be a handful. The shorty who gave it up on the first night is a THOT!! |
Designated Survivor on ABC
*Will return from Winter Break Soon* |
