Farewell American Idol and Good Riddance
Last night the once Iconic hit American show, which was the highest rated show on all of TV for several years, closed the curtain for the final time. Going into the season, I has high hopes for the last installment, as I have remained a viewer through all the years of dissatisfaction with the outcome of the show. Why, because I enjoy watching talent rise on their journey to stardom. But once again, last night, the show proved all the naysayers and doubters true, as another sure fire superstar was snubbed in the finale.
The final two for the finale season of American Idol represented what is exactly wrong with this show. Trent Harmon, a very talented singer from the south was voted as champion, defeating the best singer and performer all season, La’Porsha Renae. To say I was furious would be an understatement. La'Porsha had some of the greatest performances in the shows history and was hands down the best talent the show has seen in years. This was a travesty at the highest order.
Now please don't get me wrong, I am not holding this against the shows producers, runners or judges. They clearly recognized La'Porsha was the best all season and clearly should have won. But the problem with American Idol, and it has been for sometime is, the viewers control who wins. You might say, well that's good, the people decided who they want.

But as we have seen through the years, that's not always the best thing, as the demographics of those who watch the show can determine who wins, even if the person is not the most talented. If a bunch of country music fans are watching the show and they decide that they are voting for the country singer, no matter if that person is the best performer or not, that person will win. Its a very flawed system that turns into a popularity contest rather than about who is the best and most talented performer.
I really liked Trent and felt him being in the finale was well deserved. But let's be real, La'Porsha was just a better performer and better pure singer. She wasn't cookie cutter and she so outlandish that people couldn't relate. She never, NEVER got a bad critique and never delivered a poor performance. In fact, if the show was really about finding the next big superstar, she should have been awarded the win without needing the final vote.
I know some are saying, why are you so upset at the result of TV show, when if she's that great, she will get signed and still have a great career. Well simply put, the winner gets certain perks that the loser doesn't get and promotion behind them that the loser doesn't get. Plus she earned it!!!!!!
I'm just so disappointed that the final season of American Idol ended with another talented performer being snubbed for reason outside of talent. And that leaves me saying to Idol, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
