Holy Week: Holy Wednesday
Today we continue our observation of Holy week by emphasizing the biblical significance of Holy Wednesday, as it is called in the Christian faith.
Holy Wednesday signifies the day of Judas' betrayal by giving the whereabouts of Jesus' location away to the High Priest. Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.
Let us refer to Luke 22:1-6 for background:
1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
4 And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
Satan entered into Judas and he was mere vessel to complete the deed of betrayal, so that the scriptures may be fulfilled.
John 13: 26-27:
26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
Jesus knew he was born to die, and he knew that one of the twelve would betray him. Though we could explore the characteristics and personality of Judas, and wonder why he did it, the bottom line remains that Jesus it had to be done.
Tomorrow we focus on Maunday Thursday and explore what we in the Christian faith call The Lord's Supper.
