Does Ray Rice deserve a 2nd Chance?: Part 2
Back in March, I wrote part 1 of the story, "Does Ray Rice deserve a 2nd Chance?", and the responses I received were numerous and very opinionated. Many readers responded that Ray Rice deserved a second chance because everyone deserves a 2nd chance.
I mean what can I say to that. As a Christian man, of course I feel all men are flawed and prone to make mistakes and deserving of another chance. Ray Rice deserves to be forgiven for beating Janay Palmer Rice, especially since she forgave him. He is human and he made a mistake.

But let's talk football and leave the political correctness at the door.
In my opinion, Ray Rice doesn't deserve to play in the league again. I know it sounds like I'm hating or wishing ill on him, but I'm being real. And this has nothing to do with him beating Janay Rice.
After Ray Rice was released, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti sent him two text messages that read:
"Hey Ray, just want to let you know, we loved you as a player, it was great having you here. Hopefully all these things are going to die down. I wish the best for you and Janay."
"When you're done with football, I'd like you to know you have a job waiting for you with the Ravens helping young guys getting acclimated to the league."
Rice took a screen shot of the message, leaving only the message and the cellphone number. That way there could be no denying who had sent it. One of Rice's friends provided the text's content to "Outside the Lines," which confirmed through two independent sources that the number listed belongs to a cellphone regularly used by Bisciotti.
A few days later, after thinking about it more, Rice told friends he believed Bisciotti was suggesting that, as long as he kept quiet and stuck to the story that he had misled team officials and Goodell about what had happened in the elevator, the Ravens would take care of him down the road. He felt incredibly insulted.
And the rest is history.
With this one move, Ray Rice destroyed any chance he has at getting a job in the NFL in my opinion. Others have been involved in bad situations off the field, such as murder, rape, domestic violence, and drugs, and have been able to get a job off the strength of their talent.
But Rice committed the ultimate offense, he snitched.

The NFL is a fraternity, and when Rice released those messages that Bisciotti sent him, he showed himself to be untrustworthy. Owners talk. And by Rice throwing Bisciotti under the bus, he got himself blackballed.
Rice should have taken his punishment, apologized, did his community service and went away. Let the smoke clear as Bisciotti said, and then who knows, he may have even been brought back as a Raven.
He was shortsighted. He played the blame game and now he's paying for it.
So yes, does Ray deserve to be forgiven for his mistake he made as it pertains to knocking Janay out in that elevator, of course. Does he deserve to be picked up by another NFL franchise. Sorry pal, you did it to yourself.
