2016 NBA Finals Update -
2-0 Golden State
Ok, let's be real. There is always a chance that a team will bounce back after dropping the first two games of a series on the road, to win the next two games back in their gym. There always that chance.
But this shit is over.
The Golden State Warriors look like the team they have billed as the entire season, the best team in basketball. From top to bottom, they have the most balanced roster, and are led by the most skilled duo in the game. The role players play their roles to perfection, and their leader knows when its time to turn it up.
We are witnessing a basketball clinic.
After two games where the role players have been the story for the Warriors, its hard to imagine this Cleveland team being able to match up with them. Sure, Lebron James is a great player, but its not enough to beat the Warriors. Kyrie Irving is extremely talented, but suited to beat this Warriors team. And Kevin Love possesses great skill in his own right, but he's no match for what teh Warriors present. And there in lies the problem.
The Cavs are a team of many parts, while the Warriors are a well oiled team. They run 11 deep and all play a crucial role in the success of the team. We have seen long stretches where Steph Curry and Klay Thompson have been on the bench and the other players have taken over and dominated games. Its actually amazing to watch.
I suggested the for the Cavs to be successful, it would take adjustments from a coach who has a feel for the game, and Tyrone Lou is not that guy. He reacting instead of initiating, and playing right into the hands of the Warriors. I have no clue why the Cavs are playing these small lineups, which can not match up with the Warriors. Not only has he not utilized Timothy Mozgov, who was a key difference maker in last years finals, but he has not effectively used the key mid season acquisition in Channing Frye. Lou has relied far to heavily on JR Smith, who is struggling terribly on both ends of the court. And he has played Richard Jefferson far too many minutes.
Mathew Deladova was a break out player in last years finals, and while I in no way believe he can shut down Steph Curry, he at least adds toughness and physicality to a lineup that looks soft as shit right now. I would bring Delli in and move Kyrie to the shooting guard for a few stretches and go big in the front court with Lebron, Thompson, and Mozgov. They have to try to get physical and body the smaller Warrior lineups.
And will somebody guard Draymond Green!!!!
Anyway, all credit goes to the Warriors for putting on a great show through two games of the NBA finals. This series could be over this weekend at this rate and honestly, if its not, it may simply be delaying the inevitable.
