TOP FIVE SHOWS
OF THE LAST WEEK
NUMBER FIVE
Better Call Saul - AMC
The return of Better Call Saul was very good, as it helped foreshadow and set up what we will being seeing from the characters moving forward. We find out that Chuck indeed did die from the fire and throughout the episode we see Jimmy struggling with the guilt that it was his fault. But then in the final scene we see that all change when Howard expresses that he feels guilty for Chuck taking his own life, and Jimmy uses that moment absolve himself, and lets Howard take the blame!!! It was a sign of things to come and the Jimmy character we grew to be more accustomed to on Breaking Bad. I think the death of Chuck is going to really turn Jimmy into the Saul character we know and now the handcuffs will really off.
NUMBER FOUR
Power - Starz
Still not at the level of past seasons, but this was a pretty good episode. I really don't like the new alliance between Angela and Tasha, and I especially don't like that Ghost now knows about it. It's just too far fetched. But there was some good story advancement, and we got a good glimpse of where several of stories are heading. Angela has to go to jail for any realism to remain with the series. They just have too much evidence on her corruption.
NUMBER THREE
Love Is - OWN
I absolutely love this show. Every week I feel connected to the characters and their motivations. The simplicity of the action and depth of dialogue is refreshing, and I feel like the performances are authentic. Yasir's mother, played by Loretta Devine, may be my new favorite character on the show, and I wish she was on every week!! When she had the back of her son's baby mother, it was refreshing, and something you rarely see depicted on TV. The way Nuri was able to witness the flaws of Yasir, once again, and stand by him, was another sign of just how real their love is. I really enjoyed this one.
NUMBER TWO
Snowfall - FX
This week we got to see Franklin out of his comfort zone, and it was awkward but very necessary. Up until this point, he's pretty much made a call and people have followed him. But the bigger the organization, the bigger the problems, and he can no longer run this like he has a small crew, and like what he does only affects him. When his crew gets jumped, somebody gets robbed, someone gets killed, he has to be ready to retaliate or they will be seen as weak, and an easy target. He has yet to pull that trigger, but somebody is going to have to die and be made an example out of. Getting the crew guns is cool, but he has to show that he is someone who should not be played around with. I like the slow build and the fact that he's not just leapfrogging into a super gangster. Like on another show.......
THIS WEEK'S NUMBER ONE
Succession - HBO
After watching the season finale of Succession, it only confirmed the feeling that I have had for weeks now, and that is after one season, I am ready to declare this as the best show on television. The writing and character development has been stellar all season, and the finale only highlighted it in spades.
Let's talk Greg the Egg for a second. This is the smartest idiot ever presented on a major television show. I'm fully convinced he has aspergers or something, but he's brilliant and unconventional at the same time. And he's the biggest con artist of them all. I love it!!! The way he used the info he had when he was told to shred the documents, as leverage and presented it to Kendal at the right opportune time was genius. And it consistently has happened that way throughout the season. He just lucks into important info because people thinks he's stupid, but in all actuality he really is paying attention and is playing them all!!
All four of teh kids are so fucked up due to Logan. The guy is a true parental Tyrant on so many levels. How do you manage to upstage your daughter on her wedding day. Smh. He drove Kendal to place where he not only was forced back into his addiction, but he tried to lead hostel takeover. But in the end, nobody saw that shit coming. Kendal's addiction killed a guy, and his father is now blackmailing him with the info. What a fucked up family. Its great!!!!
