MY TAKE: The Season 2 Finale of Power
OK, I absolutely hated the the final scene of the season 3 finale of Power.
This entire season has been excellent, and each of the last several weeks delivered huge revelations and explosive cliffhangers that have made this one of the best seasons of any television show I can remember.
We will recap the entire episode when I am joined by Calvin Thomas and Tim Jones for our weekly review show, that will be posted on Tuesday.
But for today, I want to talk about my huge problem with an important scene from the finale.
Now I have read people defending this bullshit and it boggles my mind why anyone would see this shit for more than it is. Bad writing, poor storytelling.
The show has not been presented as fiction. Therefore, I should not have to suspend my disbelief and give it the benefit of the doubt that i will all make sense next season.
The fact is, a man was shanked in his side and laid prone, with blood pouring from his body. A fire was then set all around him, (since people want to point out that he wasn't directly set on fire), and he never showed any signs that the fire was bothering him, (you know, cause he was dead). Then at the end, we are told that the person escaped from inside the locked door.
Now I have heard from a few that someone, either Tommy or Dre were inside hiding the whole time, and helped Kanan escape. Ok. But what sense does that make? The way it was set up, was to make you believe that 50 got up and walked out of there, which is completely stupid in my opinion.
Which highlights my point that the last scene was unnecessary and counterproductive to the overall show and plot. they did so much this season and even in that episode that more explosive revelations were not needed to make the show any better or give a better hook for next season.
Lobos and Tommy vs Ghost is the only hook needed. This shit with Kanan is simply overkill and it hurts the realism of the show in my opinion.
Check out our full video review, which will be posted on Tuesday, but I just had to address this issue today.

- Ghost pulls a gun on Kanan in an abandoned warehouse
- Ghost takes Kanan's gun
- Lots of talking
- Kanan manages to fight him off and they fight back and forth
- Kanan hits Ghost with a 2x4 then hides in the warehouse
- When he reappears he has a gun pulled on Ghost
- Lots talking
- Ghost fights him off
- Kanan throws Ghost through glass
- Then attempts to suffocate him with plastic
- Kanan explains how many different ways he imagined killing Ghost
- Ghost picks up a loose piece of glass and shanks Kanan in the side
- Kanan falls to the ground and blood flows from his mouth, his eyes close
- He's motionless
- Ghost pours gasoline all around Kanan and ignites a fire.
- Kanan remains motionless
- Ghost leaves and meets up with Tommy
- Later the Fire Inspectors declare that someone escaped from inside
