Timothy Bradley vs. Jessie Vargas
Timothy Bradley defeated Jessie Vargas for an interim welterweight championship last night on HBO.
Bradley is likely to become the full titleholder after July 3, if the current WBO champion Floyd Mayweather doesn't pay the sanctioning fee from his May 2 title unification victory against Manny Pacquiao and also vacate his two junior middleweight belts. Mayweather must do so because the WBO prohibits fighters from holding titles in multiple weight classes at the same time.
A very good fight that Bradley looked really good in. The fight had a very interesting ending in the 12th round. After some good exchanges Vargas rattled Bradley badly with a right hand.
Vargas couldn't quite put him away, but at the ten-second mark, referee Pat Russell stopped the fight, after he accidentally thought that the 10 second warning sound was the closing bell! He completely just screwed up.
Bradley was definitely not out, but Vargas thought the ref had called the fight and he won. He did not and Bradley won on all three judges cards. Great fight.
(116-112, 117-111, 115-112) Bradley.
