The Ultimate Fighter:
Team McGregor vs Team Faber Preview
Tonight on FS1, season 22 of The Ultimate Fighter premieres at 10 p.m. This season will showcase 32 fighters competing for one of 16 spots featuring eight Europeans and eight Americans and the opportunity to be coached by two of the sport’s best athletes.
Competitors from 11 different countries have been cast to be led by UFC interim featherweight champion and Irishman Conor McGregor, opposite Urijah “The California Kid” Faber. The Europeans will be led by McGregor, while the American squad will be under the tutelage of Faber.
This will be Faber’s second stint as coach, having served as head coach for season 15 against rival Dominick Cruz in 2012. Widely considered a pioneer amongst fighters in the lighter weight classes, Faber is one of the most recognized and respected competitors in mixed martial arts history.
Conor McGregor is one of the most unique athletes to ever compete in the UFC and surley the most arrogant and cocky. McGregor has his own way of doing things and he brings his own style as one of the seasons coaches.
According to McGregor, six weeks of filming is far too little time to actually teach eight fighters how to do things differently than they've always done, so he approached this season as a chance to help them stay ready for fights while focusing on the big money future that awaits them in the UFC.
McGregor says don't expect him to be running practices or really even showing up for training sessions. Think of McGregor as more of a life coach as he prepares the young up and comers for what's coming next in the UFC.
The show will feature 12 episodes airing Wednesdays on FOX Sports 1. Each episode’s winner will advance in the single-elimination tournament, leading to the season finale card on December 11 in Las Vegas. The finale will be headlined by former lightweight champion and current second-ranked featherweight Frankie Edgar taking on Faber teammate, No. 3 Chad Mendes.
Be sure to check out this season, as even if the fights aren't always stellar, the trash talking and entertainment value Conor will bring will be 2nd to none.
